Even during the off season, our team is making assortments and loading fireworks on trailers. This year, we tried something different. Our warehouse neighbor, Corbion was planning their annual Harvesters volunteer day and we wanted to help. The Winco team transformed the dock area into 10 rows of meal packing stations. We built boxes, wrapped pallets and loaded boxes of holiday meals onto trucks.
Corbion, who operates out of Grandview has been supporting Harvesters-The Community Food Network for over eight years. “Our ‘Pack It Up’ event is always a special day for Corbion employees, who have become quite invested in making a difference for the Harvesters cause in the Kansas City area,” said Andy Muller, executive vice president of Bio-based Ingredients, Corbion, “but having our friends and neighbors at Winco lend their space and their support this year just reinforces the pride we take in being a part of this community.”
Together, the two companies packed 10,600 boxes of holiday sides which will be distributed throughout the 26 counties within the Harvesters network. This is the highest number of Harvesters boxes packed in just one event by any Harvester partner!
Both teams worked alongside each other in the planning and execution of the event. “It has been inspiring for us to see the passion our friends at Corbion have for giving back to the community,” said Michael Collar, president & COO, Winco. “As a company that’s all about the importance of traditions, we are excited to join with Corbion in helping Kansas Citians and to begin a new tradition for everyone at Winco.”
